WIP Polytunnel constructed using scaffolding posts and 1.25 inch normal gauge water pipe. Hopefully the water pipe is strong enough for the job!

Clean Site

The clean site with the beginnings of the paths marked out with builders line. Lots of stones to remove and some weeding too to be done before rotovating. Decided not to rotovate until later as soil a bit wet still. Will use the paths as much as possible to avoid compacting and destroying the soil structure while constructing everything. Next jobs to do, fence off the area with wire net, put down the pond liner, build the polytunnel frame...

Initial Allotment Plan

Beginning

In January 2010 I got a 200m2 allotment from the council. This blog will act as a diary of my experiences in transforming this empty plot into a productive beautiful and healthy garden. It's a newly prepared site so it's well serviced and fairly weed free for the moment. The site is slightly sloped and south facing with some shelter from winds from the south west. The soil is typical for north county Dublin consisting primarily of clay, but it's got more organic matter and sand than some sites I've seen around the county. All-in-all I think it's a very promising site! I'm using the planning service at www.growveg.com to layout structure and decide what goes where. This tool also tracks your plan form year to year to enable crop rotation. I'll see how it works in practice. Here's the initial grand plan...
